Discussion comments, as opposed to commentary, is an effective way to quickly collaborate with business colleagues, ask questions and provide context which ultimately leads to action.
Comments are associated to a specific commentary and data selection in time. This ensures that discussions are always in context and relevant. However, a discussion comment can also be added without the existence of a commentary. This could spark a conversation which might lead to a more detailed commentary for the benefit of other users.
There are 2 ways to create comments: Quick and Advanced mode.
When Quick mode is activated, users can type and send their comments in a chat-like fashion.
However, activating Advanced mode exposes additional controls such as comment privacy - where users can lock down comment visibility to specific users or just to themselves like personal notes.
To switch between comment creation modes, please follow these steps:
Edit the sheet
Select your Qommentary Insights extension
Expand the Discussions > General section in the Properties Panel
You may now select Quick or Advanced mode
If comment privacy is not a concern for the application use case, then Quick mode is recommended. Users can simply focus on the comment field, type and send messages in a speedy manner.
Adding a comment
2. Type your comment in the text box
3. Click on Send button
4. Your comment has been sent successfully
If you wish to offer users more control on comment visibility, then Advanced mode should be activated. Focusing on the comment field would launch a popup window with additional privacy control options.
Comments can have 3 different privacy types:
Everyone (Public) : Any application user can see the comment
Specific Users (Limited): Only users specified can see the comment
Only me (Private): Only the comment owner can see the comment
To set a comment privacy type, please follow these steps:
Click on the Discussions icon
Click inside the comments field
Select a privacy type
Type your comment and click on Add
If Specific people was selected, invited users will receive an email notification upon comment creation with a link to join the conversation. Email template can be fully customized in the Qommentary Admin Console under Email Templates > Insights discussion invitation
When a comment needs to be addressed to a specific user or set of users, you may use the comment mention feature. To mention a user in a comment, follow these steps:
Click on the text box
2. Type the “@” sign and start typing the name of the user
3. Click on the user to include in the mention
4. Continue writing your comment
5. Click on Send
All users mentioned in the comment will receive an email notification with a link to join the conversation. You may customize the email template from the Qommentary Admin Console.
One of the great advantages of team collaboration is engaging in deep meaningful discussions which could ultimately lead to action. Replying to a comment keeps conversations in context and organized for ease of reference.
Comments are usually made referencing an area of concern displayed on a commentary visualization. To add additional context to your questions, you can link visualizations to your comments. Users that view your comments, will be able to view the linked visualization and therefore understand what visualization was displayed when the comment was made.
To link a visualization to your comment, follow these steps:
Type your comment on the text box
3. Click on Send button
4. The comment has been successfully sent and users will be notified.
2. The linked visualization will be loaded successfully
To delete a comment, follow these steps:
